Career Academy hosting Georgia Apply To College Week event

Submitted by Whitfield County Schools

Whitfield Career Academy students and families struggling with the college application process can find help on Nov. 12 at the school.

The academy is participating in “Georgia Apply To College Week” on that day. Counselors at the school expect several volunteers from a number of colleges to help seniors complete their college applications online. Application fees will be waived during this event, and refreshments will be served.

Career Academy counselor Wendy Hanson said the academy is the only high school in the area to participate this year.

Students must bring:

• Their GAcollege411 login information.

• A list of the schools where students would like to apply.

• Information that will be needed to complete the application (for example, a list of the classes that will be taken during senior year, list of SAT/ACT test dates and scores earned if already taken, and tuition classification information).

• Completed essays saved on a disk, if required.

More information is available at www.usg.edu/apply-to-college, a Web site devoted to Apply To College Week. According to the site, “the goal is to provide all Georgia high school seniors with opportunities to apply to college using GAcollege411.org, with a focus on providing assistance to first generation students as they navigate the college application process.”

The event is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education, the Georgia Foundation of Independent Colleges, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia, and endorsed by the Georgia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers.
