Camps & clinics
• Christian Heritage’s Lady Lion Basketball Camp for kindergarteners through fourth graders is scheduled for June 2-5 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Cost is $50 and includes a camp T-shirt and basketball; checks should be made payable to Christian Heritage School. Registration forms are available at the school. • The Dig to Win volleyball camp for second through eighth graders will be held June 2-5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at The Baylor School in Chattanooga. Visit www.digtowin.com.
• Nob North Golf Course will host its annual junior clinic for boys and girls ages 7-17 on June 9-11 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Cost is $60. Call (760) 694-8505.
• Northwest Whitfield’s boys basketball camp for grades grades 1-9 is scheduled for June 9-12 at the school’s gymnasium, with separate sessions for grades 1-5 (9 a.m.-noon) and 6-9 (1-4 p.m.), with instruction provided by Bruins coaches and players on dribbling, passing, shooting, agility and mental approach. Drills, competitions and league games will also be part of the camp, which will have concessions and a camp bank available. Pre-registration is requested by May 31, but will also be available on the first day of camp a half-hour before each respective session. Cost is $55 and includes a T-shirt, sweatbands and basketball. • Northwest Whitfield’s baseball camp for rising second through ninth graders is scheduled for June 16-18; separate sessions will be held for second-fifth graders (9 a.m.-noon) and sixth-ninth graders (1-4 p.m.) Cost is $60 and includes a T-shirt; checks should be made payable to Northwest Whitfield Dugout Club. • Northwest Whitfield’s girls basketball camp for grades 1-9 is scheduled for June 16-19 at the school’s gymnasium, with separate sessions each day for grades 1-5 (9 a.m.-noon) and 6-9 (1-4 p.m.), and will include work on individual fundamentals with application of skills learned in one-on-one, three-on-three and free throw competition, as well as team play. Instructors include Lady Bruins coaches and players. Pre-registration by June 2 is requested; cost is $50 through that date and $55 thereafter. • Southeast’s Lady Raiders fastpitch softball camp for ages 5-14 is scheduled for July 14-16 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Cost is $45 for pre-registration or $55 first day of camp. • BlazeSports America will hold an interactive sports and recreation summer camp for youth ages 8-18 with physical disabilities on June 24-29 at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation in Warm Springs. The residential camp will include sports as well as traditional camp activities; staff will include certified therapeutic recreation specialists, disability sports professionals and athletes with disabilities and a 1:5 staff-to-camper ration will be maintained at all times. • The New Hope Middle School speed and agility camp is scheduled July 7-11 for boys and girls in first through eighth grades in the fall. First through fourth grades go from 9 a.m.-noon and fifth through eighth graders from 1-4 p.m. each day in the school gym. Cost is $75 and includes a T-shirt and daily lunch. • North Georgia USFA will host girls fastpitch softball tournaments at Heritage Park on May 16-18, May 23-25, May 30-June 1 and June 13-15; at Ringgold’s Jack Mattox Complex June 6-8 and June 20-22; Cleveland’s Tinsley Park on June 27-29; Marietta’s Sandy Springs Park on June 27-29. • The Georgia Sheriffs MountainView golf tournament is scheduled for May 23 at Indian Trace Golf Course in Chatsworth. Event is four-man select shot with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. following an 11:30 a.m. lunch. First through third places will be awarded, with closest to pin prizes and a hole-in-one contest. Proceeds will benefit MountainView Boy’s Home in Murray County. Tourney sponsorships are available ranging from $100 to $5,000. Call (706) 259-8581.

Summer leagues
• Registration is being accepted for the summer tennis program at Dalton Golf and Country Club. Girls and boys of all school grades can learn, play and compete in clinics, leagues and tournaments offered throughout the season; instruction for adults just beginning as well as special sessions for training young tournament competitors allows everyone to get in the swing. • Northwest Whitfield’s boys basketball staff is offering a summer league that will focus on individual fundamentals and team play. Bruins coaches will serve as instructors and referee games. At each meeting, new teams will be drafted — this will allow players to miss a night if they have a schedule conflict. Meetings are scheduled for May 27 and 29, June 2, 5, 9, 16, 19, 23 and 24 at 6 p.m., with 20 minutes of instruction and 40 minutes of game play scheduled. League will have two age groups (grades 5-6 and 7-8, based on upcoming school year). Cost is $45 and includes a T-shirt. Contact Ryan Richards at (706) 673-6533.
Team tryouts
• The Northwest Soccer Academy will hold tryouts for under-9, under-10 and under-11 teams in Whitfield County in May. Call (706) 280-1990 or e-mail thebelles@northwestsocceracademy.com.
• The Dalton Tigers Baseball Club will hold tryouts for the 2009 baseball season for ages 8-12 (individual teams for each age group). Financial and travel commitment is required. Write daltontigers@hotmail.com for information.
• The Georgia Mustangs, an 12-and-under travel softball team, is looking for a pitcher and utility player to help finish out this season. Call (423) 488-4950.
Hiking club
• BWC’s hiking club will travel to Kolb’s Farm in Kennesaw on May 17. Drive time to the trailhead is 1 1/2 hours; hike is 5.7 miles in length. Club is free to members and non-members, but pre-registration is required to participate. Sign-up is required at least one week prior to the hike. Call (706) 278-9355.
DHS baseball lunch
• The Dalton High Dugout Club will host a fundraising lunch at the Oakwood Cafe on May 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $7 per plate and proceeds go to the school’s baseball program. Carry-out meals available. Tickets available at the door.
DHS track banquet
• Dalton High School’s track and field banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on May 19 in the school’s commons. Tickets may be purchased in the business office through May 16 and are $14.
NW baseball meeting
• Northwest Whitfield will hold an organizational meeting for its summer baseball program at 7 p.m. on May 26 at Richard S. Chumley Field; in the case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held in the school’s gymnasium. Meeting is for all teams, from middle school to varsity. Signup forms and information can be found on the school’s Web site under the baseball section.
Monster truck event
• North Georgia Speedway will host “Monster Truck Summer Slam” on June 6-7 at 8 p.m. each night. Activities include racing by some of the nation’s top trucks — including Bigfoot — a freestyle crushing contest, “Tuff Truck” obstacle course racing open to local drivers with their personal vehicles, monster truck rides, pit party and chances to win a judge’s spot for the crushing contest. Advance tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children (ages 3-12) and available at North Georgia Speedway and O’Reilly Auto Parts; prices are $20 and $10 day of show.
