Entries are now being accepted for the 87th annual Georgia Amateur Championship, which takes place July 10-13 at Idle Hour Club in Macon. This event is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents.
The format of the event is 72 holes of stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. Last year, seventeen-year-old Harris English of Thomasville shot 72 in the final round and held on as the leaders fell back from a five-stroke advantage to win the 86th annual Georgia Amateur Championship. English’s even-par 288 for the tournament edged Mark Strickland of Woodstock by one. English became the youngest champion since Atlanta golf legend Charlie Yates captured the 1931 Georgia Amateur. Fourteen-year-old Bobby Jones won the inaugural event in 1916.
Eighteen-hole qualifying rounds for the Georgia Amateur Championship begin June 2 and run through June 23 at ten sites located throughout the state.
Qualified players may enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link. Paper entries are available by request and may also be downloaded as a PDF file via the GSGA website. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, May 7 at 5:00 p.m.
