Entries are now being accepted for the 43rd annual Georgia Junior Championship, which takes place June 16-18 at Augusta Country Club. This event is open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14 and 17 as of June 16, who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependents of GSGA members.
The format of the event is 54 holes of stroke play with the 144-player field being cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. The top eight finishers at the Georgia Junior Championship are invited to represent the state in the annual Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match. Last year, Acworth’s James White Jr. posted a final-round 76 for a 6-over-par 219 to hold off Augusta’s Clark Palmer and take the title by a single stroke.
Entries are also being accepted for the 29th annual Georgia Girls’ Championship, which will also take place June 16-18 at Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw. This event is open to female amateur golfers between the ages of 9 and 17 as of June 16, who are Georgia residents and GSGA members or dependents of GSGA members.
The format is 54 holes of stroke play for the Championship flight, 36 holes for the 15-18 and 12-14 age divisions, and 18 holes (nine per day) for the 9-11 year old division. The top four finishers in the Championship Division will be invited to represent the state in the annual Georgia-South Carolina Girls’ Junior Challenge Match. In last year’s event, Riverdale’s Mariah Stackhouse fired rounds of 77-70-75 for a tournament total of 6-over 222 and a four-shot victory over Kathryn Fowler of Americus.
