Tough competition

Police and Fire Games results

A seasoned Dalton firefighter placed second in the Toughest Overall Competitor event at the Police and Fire Games in Dalton on Monday.

The event features a challenging obstacle course and a 1.7 mile run.

Officer Valerian Khoshtariya of the Chamblee Police Department placed first with a time of 19.25. Douglas Kerns of Dalton followed with a time of 20.25. Third-place finisher, Officer Mike Baller of the Chamblee Police Department, finished in 20:28.

The Dalton Police Department had two officers competing — Serena Martin (35:10) and Jason Thompson (24:52). Dalton firefighter Josh Shoemaker finished the course in 24:21.

In the 5 Stand Shooting competition, which involves shooting from a variety of stations, first place went to Timmy Ponders of the Whitfield County Fire Department, second place to Darren Burnette of the Whitfield County Fire Department and third place to Greg Metcalf of the Dalton Fire Department. Ponders also won first place in 2012.

In the bass fishing tournament, first place went to Brandon Glass and Mike Sloan of the Dalton Fire Department who caught 15.25 pounds of fish plus a big fish of 4.42 pounds. Second place went to Curtis Green and Edward Kimbrell of the Cornelia Police Department with 14.37 pounds. Sam Jones and Brian Wright of the Habersham Sheriff’s Department took third place with 12.97 pounds. Each team caught five fish.

In the 2 Man Scramble at Windstone Golf Course, Brian Chatham and Travis Spriggs of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Department finished first with a score of 62, Chuck Groover and Mike Burns of the Macon Bibb Police Department were second with a 63, and Larry Gilbert and Mark Tanner of the Calhoun Fire Department were third, also with a 63. The tie was decided by scorecard regression.
