Three people killed in shooting spree

DALTON — Three men were killed and a woman injured, authorities said, in a shooting spree earlier tonight outside of Dawnville.

The shootings occurred at 1571 Rainbow Circle, which is off of Lower Kings Bridge Road just northeast of Dawnville.

Capt. Rick Swiney of the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office said the shootings were the result of a “domestic situation.”

Swiney said no motive had been established for the shootings as of late tonight and it was not known if any of the people who were shot were related. The woman who was injured in the shootings lived in the house.

Whitfield County sheriff’s officers were called to the scene just after 8:30 p.m. in response to a call of shots fired.

Officials at the scene did not release the names of any of the people who had been shot, but Swiney said it is believed that the shooter is one of the people who was shot.

Two of the men were declared dead at the scene while the other man was transported to Hamilton Medical Center where he died.

In addition to the four people who were shot, Swiney said there were four to five children at the house at the time of the shootings.

“It doesn’t appear if any of them were hurt,” he said. All of the children were taken to residences that were close by.

In addition to law enforcement personnel from the sheriff’s office, Georgia State Patrol troopers were on the scene tonight as well as two crime scene investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
