Georgie CPAs honored
ATLANTA — The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA), a professional organization for CPAs in Georgia, was recently awarded the Bronze Leadership Award and the Silver Corporate Partnership Award by Junior Achievement of Georgia, a local nonprofit organization that inspires and prepares young people, K-12th grade, to succeed in a global economy. The recipient of the awards is selected by Junior Achievement of Georgia in recognition of outstanding classroom support and funding.
During Junior Achievement of Georgia’s Annual Meeting of the Board held on June 26, 2008 in The Preston S. Arkwright Auditorium, the GSCPA was lauded for its work as an organization that has gone “above and beyond” to support Junior Achievement of Georgia’s strategic initiatives or areas of focus.
“The GSCPA volunteers serve as role models in the classroom, teaching students economic concepts that help to prepare them for personal and professional success. The Society’s support of Junior Achievement of Georgia is truly appreciated, and we look forward to our continued partnership.” – Parky Rogers, Vice President of Volunteer Operations
An issue of mounting concern, financial illiteracy affects every income group. Recent studies show that 43 percent of American families spend more than they earn each year, and the average household credit card debt is more than $8,000. In 2005, 2 million Americans filed for bankruptcy – the highest amount in history and twice the number since 1995. The GSCPA is part of a larger national effort spearheaded by the AICPA designed to educate the American public, from school children to retirees, on financial topics that apply specifically to their particular stage of life.
“The Georgia Society of CPAs is honored to be the recipient of both awards given by Junior Achievement. The awards represent the dedication of a large number of GSCPA members. Each member who has volunteered found the experience both rewarding and fulfilling, and the GSCPA looks forward to a continued partnership.” – Emily Sanders, Chair of the GSCPA Financial Literacy Committee
