Windstream eliminating 47 local jobs

Windstream is cutting 47 jobs at its assignment group location in Dalton at 615 S. Thornton Ave. as part of a “restructuring,” company officials said.

Windstream currently performs assignment work in Dalton and Cornelia. As part of the restructuring, the company is consolidating the assignment work into the Cornelia office. Windstream also plans to use an outside company to assist the Cornelia office with certain assignment functions. Additionally, the company will keep a small assignment support team of approximately 14 people in Dalton to handle complex assignment projects.

After a customer orders services, the assignment group assigns the associated network facilities so that technicians can start the installation process, Windstream said.

The transition of work will be conducted in stages starting in early March. The company expects to complete the project in early July. Windstream will provide severance benefits and outplacement services to affected employees.

“The restructuring is part of our ongoing efforts to efficiently manage the business while continuing to invest in the network and deliver value to customers and shareholders,”  Windstream said. “We operate in a tough, competitive environment. That’s especially true in Dalton where we have to compete with the city in addition to the competitors we normally face in the private sector.”

Windstream has approximately 350 employees in Dalton.
