Engineered Floors to build plant in Whitfield County

Charles Oliver

— Engineered Floors Chairman and CEO Robert E. “Bob” Shaw said Wednesday the company plans an expansion in Northwest Georgia that could create some 2,000 new jobs over the next five years.

Shaw said the company will invest more than $450 million in Northwest Georgia over the next five years and build at least one new factory in Whitfield County. He declined to say exactly where that facility will be built. He said construction on the facility could start “immediately.”

Shaw said not all of the new jobs will be added at this facility and the company could build other facilities as well.

Based in Dalton, Engineered Floors has expanded rapidly since its founding in 2009. It currently employs some 1,200 people in facilities in Whitfield, Murray and Gordon counties.

“This is about our fifth expansion,” Shaw said. “We are just completing an expansion of our Dalton facilities. In fact, we won’t complete that expansion until the end of this year. This is really just a continuation of our growth. It just happened to be a new location.”
