Local officials hope to woo new IVC plant

Local officials say they still hope to attract a factory planned by floorcovering company IVC US.

The company announced Thursday its plans to open an $80 million, 300,000-square-foot plant in the United States to manufacture luxury vinyl plank and tile.  The company, a subsidiary of the Belgium-based IVC Group, opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Dalton two years ago.

“IVC US is ready to engage in its second North American manufacturing investment since 2011, when we opened our sheet vinyl plant in Dalton,” said Xavier Steyaert, co-CEO of IVC US in a press release.

The press release said the plant is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2015, but it did not say where the plant will be.

Brian Anderson, Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce president, said that to his knowledge the company is still considering possible sites, including Dalton.

“We are talking to them. We knew when they built their first plant that there might be other opportunities,” he said. “We certainly hope to get that done. That’s totally up to them, but I think we will be competitive.”
