DSC golf brings in JUCO star

— The Dalton State College women’s golf program has added another name to its 2014 roster when the team begins play next fall.

Erika Warzinski, a 20-year-old sophomore at Seminole State College in Sanford, Fla., visited Dalton last week and signed a letter of intent on Saturday, according to a press release from Dalton State.

From Valrico, Fla., she attended Durant High School and was on the golf, tennis, volleyball and diving teams. She is a redshirt sophomore and a 2012 JUCO All-American. She led the junior college to the National Junior College Athletic Association championship tournament and finished fifth among all golfers with a 71.

Dalton State coach Jim McGrew said the new signee’s experience will help what is expected to be a young roster.

“With that experience we know we are adding a leader to help our younger players understand what it takes to compete for conference and national championships,” McGrew said in the press release.

“We know Erika will be a great addition to the Roadrunner family.”  

The men’s team started last fall as one of the first sports for the rebooted athletics program at the school.

The women will begin next fall with a full schedule. Dalton State is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Beginning in the fall, the Roadrunners in the Southern States Athletic Conference. This season, the Roadrunners are competing as an independent school.
