Roadrunner Rumble will help DSC sports

The Daily Citizen

— The Roadrunner Rumble, an adult seven-on-seven flag football tournament that will raise money for Dalton State College’s athletics program, is set for today.

Competition begins at 9:30 a.m. on the fields adjacent to the Dalton Parks and Recreation’s John Davis Recreation Center at 904 Civic Drive. Title games are scheduled for 4 p.m.

Money raised from the tournament will be used to support sports teams at Dalton State, which will have intercollegiate athletics this school year for the first time during the school’s four-year era. It’s the second year for the tournament, which had eight teams compete in 2012.

Ryan Hollingsworth, the event’s director and the Whitfield County Recreation Department athletic coordinator, said the tournament field is set, with eight teams in the “A” tournament and four in the “B” tournament. That means the total amount that has been gathered from teams’ entry fees is $3,000.

“I graduated from Dalton State College, so this is just a way for me to give back,” Hollingsworth said, “and maybe we can get some people out to watch.”
