DSC men’s tennis wraps up school’s first season Sunday

Dalton State College’s men’s tennis team will close its season with a makeup match this weekend.

The Roadrunners (13-5), who will finish their first year of National Association of Intercol-legiate Athletics competition, host Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta (10-4) at 11 a.m. Sunday at Lakeshore Park in Dalton.

Dalton picked up a 5-4 road win earlier this season over SCAD-Atlanta, which won the regular-season and tournament titles for the Appalachian Athletic Conference and will compete in the NAIA national tournament next month.

The Roadrunners were set to host the Bees earlier this year, but that match was rained out.

Dalton State will compete in the Southern States Athletic Confer-ence next season, but without a conference home this season the Roadrunners were not eligible for postseason play.

“This is a great opportunity for our guys to finish the season against a qualifier for the NAIA national tournament,” Dalton State coach Zach Rogers said.

Dalton State’s women’s team closed its season last Saturday with a 5-0 rain-shortened home win over Snead State of Boaz, Ala., and finished the year 10-7.
