First time’s a charm for DSC cheerleaders

Dalton State College’s competition cheerleading team had as good a start as anyone might have hoped for.

The Roadrunners competed Saturday in their first event, the Cheersport Atlanta Grand Championship at the Georgia World Congress Center, and won. That precedes the team’s trip to the Cheersport Nationals, which will be held Feb. 14-16 at the same venue and will attract competition cheerleading programs from across the Southeast.

Team members who helped Dalton State win were Emily Ayers, Mariel Broadrick, Jordan Collins, Arika Culp, Austin Culp, Katie Goolsby, Rachel Lockhart, Xavier Martin, Maci Price, Manuel Montelongo, Kristen Skiffen, Kayla Webb and Austin West. The team’s manager is Jordan Sattler.

In a release from Dalton State, Roadrunners coach Robyn New-ell said she was hoarse from “yelling with excitement while watching them execute and hit their pyramid with pride.”

“I could see how strong Dalton State cheer is as the squad walked away with their trophy, medals and banner,” Newell said. “We are so thankful for the tremendous amount of support we have received as we perform.”
