Citizens of the Week: Tommy Pinson, Horace Moore and Lanny Cooper

When Tommy Pinson of the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department learned that area participants in the Special Olympics Spring Games were to be served sack lunches, something about that just didn’t sit right. Pinson went to his fellow members of the Concerned Citizens of Dalton and asked if they would be willing to help out. They said yes.

Members took money out of the club account and bought enough ground beef and hamburger buns to make 400 burgers, as well as to provide condiments and chips. But they didn’t stop there. On the morning of the event, Pinson, Horace Moore and Lanny Cooper brought large grills to the competition site, fired them up and got busy cooking lunch.

“None of our volunteers worked harder or did more for these special kids than they all did, and their appreciation was evident as well as I watched them devour the delicious hamburgers and other goodies they provided,” said Bill Scott of the Carpet City Rotary Club, one of the event sponsors.

This is the second year the club has provided a home-cooked lunch for the Games.

For their hard work in providing so many burgers for the Special Olympics athletes, The Daily Citizen names Tommy Pinson, Horace Moore and Lanny Cooper Citizens of the Week.
