— Megan Mavity, the granddaughter of Betty and Cecil NeSmith of Dalton, was a standout student-athlete for Davidson (N.C.) College this past fall.

Mavity, a sophomore cross country runner and alum of Atlanta’s Marist School, was among 19 Davidson student-athletes who earned a spot on the Southern Conference’s Academic All-Conference team. Her 3.89 grade point average was also the highest, along with men’s soccer team member Jake Keator, of Davidson student-athletes.

To be eligible for the team, student-athletes had to carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA entering the fall season, compete in at least half of the team’s competitions during the fall and complete at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters. There were 297 student-athletes honored on the team.

Mavity is the daughter of Howard and Karla Mavity of Atlanta.
