Historical society seeking Westbrook art

The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society is seeking the drawings, cartoons and caricatures of the late Jim Westbrook for their headquarters at the Crown Gardens and Archives at 715 Chattanooga Ave.

Westbrook, who was known for his keen insights and observations of society through pencil drawings and watercolor, passed away on Monday. At one time he also submitted cartoons to The Daily Citizen.

“He was a folk artist who worked at the old Crown Cotton Mill, and then went to work at Collins and Aikman,” said Judy Alderman, a friend of the society. “Everywhere he went, even to the Tunnel Hill Barber Shop and Peachtree Assisted Living Center, he was always drawing people and situations. We know there is a lot of his work out there.”
