Aug. 21
• The Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. with $1,500 in prizes awarded. The VFW is at 618 Veterans Drive in Dalton.

Aug. 23
• A planning meeting for the Dalton High School Class of 1968 reunion will be held Aug. 23 at 9 a.m. at Oakwood Café in Dalton. Several places are being considered for Saturday and a possible Friday evening location. For more information, call Vickey at (706) 581-1632.

• Girl Scouts of Dalton will have sign ups Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Girl Scouts’ office located on East Walnut Avenue. There will be games, activities, refreshments and face painting.

• The third annual Dug Gap Elementary Back-to-School Bash will be held Aug. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A parent-teacher volleyball game will be held at 10 a.m. There will be indoor games and activities, performances by Dance Theater of Dalton and the Dug Gap Elementary Production Chorus, inflatables, themed basket raffle, food and treats. The school is at 2032 Dug Gap Road in Dalton.

Aug. 24
• The Higdon family reunion will be held Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Fairmount Community Center in Fairmount. For more information, call Vicki Crider at (706) 673-4529.

Aug. 27
• The Downtown Dalton Development Authority will hold its regular monthly board meeting Aug. 27 at 7:45 a.m. at New City Hall at 300 W. Waugh St. The meeting is open to the public.

Aug. 28
• The regular monthly meeting of the membership of the Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 112 in Dalton will be held Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. at the post. For membership information, call the Post at (706) 226-5120 or Lisa Elliott at (706) 259-5423 or (706) 264-3897.

Sept. 2
• The Conasauga Chapter of the Georgia Nurses Association will meet Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Whitfield County Health Department. David Bowling, pharmacist at Cherokee Pharmacy, will be the guest speaker. There will be a Dutch-treat box meal. All members and registered nurses are invited. Sept. 4
• The Alzheimer’s Association will present “Docs and Desserts” Sept. 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dalton. Dr. James J. Lah will be the guest speaker. Lah is associate professor of neurology and director of the cognitive neurology program at Emory University. Sept. 6
• Descendants of Roy and Vick Rankin Seay will have a family reunion Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Baptist Church fellowship hall in Rocky Face. A covered dish lunch will be served at noon. • Descendants and relatives of Anse Parker will share a weekend in the mountains. Meet Sept. 27 at Caney Fort Community Center in Cullowhee, N.C. for a covered dish lunch. • American Legion Post 167 in Chatsworth will host “A Soldier’s Call Home” benefit Sept. 27 from 1 to 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by The Carla Tatum Band and The Fort Mountain Boys. There will also be door prizes and raffle drawings. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 3 to 16; dressed veterans are admitted free.
