The Creative Arts Guild’s First Friday today features three artists in two galleries plus the debut of A Festival of Trees.
The artists are Cindy McCreery, William Temples and John Wilson in the Guild’s Galleries. A Festival of Trees will be in the Guild’s Performance Hall.
This month’s First Friday Gallery 111 is McCreery, a longtime resident of Dalton. Continuing in the Main Gallery are American artists Temples and Wilson.
Temples has worked as a graphic designer, illustrator and cartoonist, and now works in the fields of education and fine art.
Self-taught artist Wilson started painting two years ago through lessons taken at the Guild. He is from Hawkinsville and moved to Dalton in 1977. He is married to Cynthia Wilson.
Friendship House Executive Director Mary Thelma Norris called Guild Executive Director Terry Tomasello and offered a new fundraising idea — A Festival of Trees. Both nonprofits agreed to host this inaugural event to benefit their scholarship programs. The Festival of Trees will offer a winter wonderland of designer trees, wreaths, stockings and more.
A Festival of Trees committee put together an event that would offer sponsors and DIY (Do It Yourself) elves an opportunity to create a tree, wreath, stocking or centerpiece that would be part of a silent auction later this month. Designer elves include Kellie Smith, Tatum Hackney, Debbie Daniels, Simmy Terry, Sara Pennington, Robin Hurney, Marjorie Mitchell, Toni Hitte, Mohawk Group, Kristy Harden and H2B Creative.
The Festival of Trees and First Friday open at 5:30 p.m. today with lead sponsor Textile Rubber offering a 6-foot designer tree as part of the auction. Bidding is open through Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. and items may be picked up on Nov. 24 just in time for the holidays.
It’s not too late to be a part of the Festival of Trees. Call Tomasello at the Guild at (706) 259-1974 for more information.
