Lauren Sain was already planning to run a half marathon in a city halfway across the country when she saw an advertisement for one in her own backyard.
On Saturday morning, Sain will find out how far her training has taken her in preparation for the first Dalton Half Marathon, which will also serve as her first attempt at a distance race beyond a 5K.

On Sept. 25 a hardy band of spandex-clad adventurers from across the Southeast will invade Rome in hopes of conquering the city’s seven famous hills and its three meandering rivers during the Coosa River Basin Initiative’s 3rd Annual 7 Hills 3 Rivers Adventure Race.
Smith wins triathlon title
A gritty Emilie Smith claimed Dalton's only first-place finish Saturday morning in the second annual Dalton Youth Triathlon at Dalton Recreation Center.
Smith, an eighth grader at Dalton Middle School, won the female Senior Division (ages 13-17). Her events in order included the 300-meter swim, 8-mile bike ride and 2-mile run.
Go for it
Chatsworth resident Daniel Parson disdained running when he was in school, but has shown quite a reversal as an adult.
