Sellers on title team at DGCC

Lisa Sellers, the reigning women’s champion at Dalton Golf and Country Club, and Northwood Golf Club’s Darlene Wehrnyak combined to shoot a 2-over-par 74 and win the Ladies North Georgia Invitational this past Friday.

The Dalton Golf and Country Club tournament featured 28 two-woman teams in four-ball competition, with each competitor playing their own ball and the lower score between the partners on each hole counting toward their team score.

Sellers and Wehrnyak won the championship flight by two strokes over Cleveland Country Club’s Maggie Scott and Linda Mullins, who combined to shoot a 76. Maryland Nolan-Johnson (Chapel Hill Country Club) and Fields Ferry’s Rochelle Weaver were first in the net-handicap competition in the championship flight with a 61, seven strokes ahead of Anna Cunningham and Karen Burns of Chattanooga Country Club.

Nolan-Johnson was also the tournament medalist with a 76.

In the gross score competition, other flight winners were Bent Tree Golf Club’s Sue Williams and Fields Ferry’s Jinna Wheeler with a 75 in first flight, Creeks Bend’s Evelyn Marie Williams and Cindy Garrett with an 85 in second flight and Rome’s Shirley Howard and Juantia Tarpley with a 91 in third flight.

Net-hanidcap flight winners were Dalton Golf and Country Club’s Marcia Evans and Sandra Hefner with a 64 in first flight, Dalton Golf and Country Club’s Claire Pelfrey and Dana Willman with a 67 in second flight and Dalton Golf and Country Club’s Betty Sadosuk and Spring Lakes Golf Club’s Edna Cross with a 60 in third flight.
