Georgia Junior Championship coming to Farm

MARIETTA — The 2013 Georgia State Golf Association competitions schedule features 19 statewide tournaments and championships, 16 qualifying rounds for two state championships, three team matches and 17 qualifying rounds for USGA national championships.

“The GSGA Site Committee has once again put together a great schedule for the 2013 competitions season,” said Layne Williams, GSGA senior director of Rules and Competitions.

“We will travel to excellent venues across the state, including Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw for the Georgia Amateur Championship. This is the fourth time we’ve held our state championship at Pinetree, and first since the club’s renovation in 2007-08, so we’re looking forward to another true championship test and a great week of golf.”

Men’s events

One of the many highlights of the 2013 competitions schedule is the 92nd annual Georgia Amateur Championship, set for July 11-14 at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw. The club also hosted in 2003, 1985 and 1976.

The Championship was first held at Capital City Club in Atlanta in 1916 and was won by 14-year-old Robert T. “Bobby” Jones, Jr. Qualifying rounds for the 2013 Amateur Championship will take place at 10 sites across the state from June 3 to 21.

Another popular event is the 32nd annual Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship, scheduled for May 17 to 19 at The Savannah Golf Club. This will mark the first time in event history the Mid-Am competition will be played in Savannah. Qualifying rounds for the Mid-Amateur Championship will be held at six locations statewide from April 1 to 18.

The schedule will once again feature a pair of four-ball competitions, including the season-opening and 25th annual Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, which takes place March 22 to 24 at Doublegate Country Club and Stonebridge Golf and Country Club, both in Albany.

This year marks the fifth time Stonebridge will play host to this competition, but first time it will pair with Doublegate. The 42nd annual Georgia Four-Ball Championship will be held April 26 to 28 at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans for the first time.

Other men’s competitions on the 2013 calendar include the Georgia Public Links Championship, which celebrates its 25th anniversary, Sept. 14 and 15, at Legacy on Lanier in Buford. The 95th annual Atlanta Amateur Match Play Championship takes place Oct. 3 to 6 at Rivermont Golf and Country Club, and the Georgia Team Championship, now in its 21st year, is set for Oct. 26 and 27 at The Georgia Club in Statham.
