Noll tied for sixth at state Mid-Am

SAVANNAH — Defending champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton shot an even-par round of 71 and was tied for sixth place after Friday’s opening round of the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship at The Savannah Golf Club.

Noll, Suwanee’s Donny Phillips Jr. and Savannah’s Scott Weeks were all tied at level par, four shots off of the pace of Suwanee’s Fred Rescigno Jr. at 4-under.

After today’s second round, the field will be cut to the low 70 and ties for Sunday’s final round.

Two other golfers from Whitfield County — Rocky Face’s Matt Oxford and Kevin Chastain — were both outside of the top 100.
