McAbee earns Extra Mile Award at Gordon Hospital

CALHOUN — Max McAbee has been awarded Gordon Hospital’s prestigious Extra Mile Award.

This special award was created by members of the hospital’s Employee Engagement Committee to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. It is awarded monthly to deserving employees selected by the hospital’s directors.

“Max is a perfect example of what this award is all about,” says Elmore Patterson, director of facilities for Gordon Hospital. “He consistently does an amazing job with a smile on his face and a positive attitude.”

McAbee, a floor technician in the Housekeeping Department, has been employed by Gordon Hospital for 10 years. He says he is honored to be recognized for doing something that he was raised to do.

“Treat people with respect and in the end it pays off,” he says. “I love the people of Gordon Hospital. They are kind-hearted and fair to all people.”

After high school, McAbee attended horticulture school for two years before serving his country for 12 years as a U.S. Army Ranger. He and his wife of 44 years, Judith, are the proud parents of five children, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, camping, good gospel music, and playing his guitar.
