Gordon Hospital is sending local students back to school in style.
On Friday, August 2 from 3-6 p.m., Gordon Hospital is hosting a Back to School Blast for all local public, private, and homeschool students in grades Pre-K through 12. The event will be held at the Sonoraville Recreation Complex, 7494 Fairmount Highway.
“We are excited to host the event this year, which promises to be a lot of fun and educational as well,” says Kim Brazell, director of public relations and marketing for Gordon Hospital. “We have a lot great giveaway items and fun activities planned.”
Calhoun and Gordon County public schools will be on hand giving out information, as well as Philadelphia Christian School, Coble Elementary School and Georgia Cumberland Academy. Free backpacks and a variety of schools supplies will be distributed while supplies last. Students are encouraged to visit their school’s table to receive their free backpack. Homeschool students should visit the Gordon Hospital table to receive their free backpack while supplies last.
The double gymnasium at the recreation complex will also house a giant inflatable slide and bounce house for the students to enjoy. Local DJ Donnie Holmes will be on stage to provide entertainment throughout the event, including hula hoop and jump rope contests with prizes given to the winners.
“We are very excited to be partnering with Premium Outlets of Calhoun to host a back-to-school fashion show,” Brazell adds. “We have 26 local students, who are the children or grandchildren of Gordon Hospital employees, that will be showcasing the latest back to school fashion trends.”
The fashion show is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
In addition to back-to-school information, attendees can also expect to receive kid-friendly health information on subjects such as the proper amount of sleep, proper nutrition, the dangers of tobacco, and more. Gordon Hospital’s Superhero of Safety, Mac the Medic, is also expected to make an appearance.
Admission to event is free and registration is not required. For more information, please call Karen Shaw at 706-602-7800, ext. 2305. All giveaway items, including the book backpacks, will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
