Gordon Hospital officials are pleased to announce the promotion of two employees to director positions.
According to Amy Jordon, chief nursing officer for Gordon Hospital, Sandy Barton, RN, has been named Emergency/Education Director for the hospital.
“Sandy’s vast experience and knowledge made her the obvious choice for this dual role,” Jordon says. “Not only will our emergency patients benefit from her incredible clinical skills, but our entire nursing staff will benefit from the knowledge she shares with them.”
Barton, who previously worked as a nurse in the hospital’s Emergency Department, has been employed by Gordon Hospital for 20 years. She received her nursing diploma from Georgia Baptist Medical Center and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is currently working to obtain her Master of Science degree in Nursing Education.
“I am very thankful for this wonderful opportunity,” Barton says. “I look forward to continuing Gordon Hospital’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ to all we serve.”
Barton and her husband, John, reside in Fairmount. She has a daughter, Sarah, and a son, John Robert. Her hobbies and interest include reading, flower gardening, attending church and spending time with her family.
Karen Steely, RN, BSN, former Emergency Department nurse and former director of the Medical and Surgical Unit, has been named director of the Progressive Care and Intensive Care units at the hospital.
There is no doubt that Karen will do an amazing job as our Director of PCU and ICU,” Jordon says. “We are thrilled that she has chosen to use her leadership skills at Gordon Hospital.”
Steely, who has been employed by Gordon Hospital for 13 years, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Nursing.
“I love being a nurse and am excited about the opportunity to return to a formal leadership role within my profession,” Steely says.
She and her husband, Lynn, have been married for 16 years and they reside in Calhoun with their 12-year-old daughter, Bree, a 7th grader at Sonoraville Middle School, and their son Jake, 11, a 6th grader at Sonoraville Middle School. In her spare time, she enjoys running, reading and camping.
