Bess Stanford earns Extra Mile Award at Gordon Hospital

CALHOUN — Bess Stanford has been awarded Gordon Hospital’s prestigious Extra Mile Award.

This special award was created by members of the hospital’s Employee Engagement Committee to recognize employees who go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. It is awarded monthly to deserving employees selected by the hospital’s directors.

“Bess is an exceptional individual and an outstanding employee,” says Kerry Kovarik-Desch, director of practice operations for Gordon Hospital.  “She is a natural leader and an important resource to the practice managers in the clinics and to the credentialing process. She is a real team player and an asset to our Clinic Management department as well as the clinics overall. We are blessed to have her working in our department.”

Stanford, who serves as auditor/coder for Gordon Hospital’s Clinic Management department, says she is very honored to receive the award.

“I love teaching and helping people,” she says. “As a medical coder, I have the opportunity to do what I love – helping and educating my co-workers with their coding questions.”

Stanford, who has been employed by Gordon Hospital for two years, attended Georgia Southern University and is a Certified Professional Coder. She and her husband of 40 years, Jack, reside in LaFayette. They have three children and nine grandchildren.

In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, gardening, visiting the town of Savannah, and taking care of her two horses, four dogs, and her cat.
