Steele named director of the Office of Health Information Technology and Transparency

ATLANTA – Dr. Rhonda Medows, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH), announced on Monday the appointment of Renea Steele as Director of the Office of Health Information Technology and Transparency (HITT). This newly created position underscores the importance of Georgia’s HITT initiative.

“The success of Georgia’s health information technology initiative is dependent upon strong leadership and the ability to develop and maintain relationships with Georgia’s health care community stakeholders,” said Dr. Rhonda Medows. “Ms. Steele will be an asset to furthering our efforts as we continue to unveil health information technology and health information exchange projects across Georgia.”

As Director of the Office of HITT, Ms. Steele will lead the strategic efforts of the state of Georgia for health information technology adoption and health information exchange to improve health care delivery for providers, health care professionals and consumers. She will work closely with DCH leadership, the HITT Advisory Board and key health care stakeholders.

Renea Steele is an accomplished information systems professional with over 20 years of experience in the health care industry in positions of increasing impact and scope. Prior to joining DCH, Ms. Steele was a health care consultant for Courtyard Group Ltd, an international health care transformation company. Previously she served as IT manager of Ancillary Systems for the North Broward Hospital District in Fort Lauderdale Florida and held several leadership positions at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the largest public health care system in the United States.

Ms Steele holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the College of Staten Island and a Masters of Science in Health Administration from Hunter College, CUNY.

The Office of HITT was created in January to work toward accomplishing the goals outlined in Georgia’s HITT Strategic Plan. To learn more about the Office of HITT or Georgia’s HITT initiative, visit: www.dch.georgia.gov/gahitt.
