Prep roundup: Seth Pierce's groove frustrates Colts in Chattanooga



Dalton boys 5, Ridgeland 0: The Cats (2-0, 1-0 Sub-region 7B-4A) picked up the road win behind singles victories from No. 1 Jacob Johnson, 6-0, 6-1, No. 2 Nathan Bryant, 6-0, 6-0 and No. 3 B.J. Rowland 6-0, 6-0. Ridgeland forfeited both doubles matches.

Dalton girls 5, Ridgeland 0: The Lady Cats (2-0, 1-0) also swept on the road, getting singles wins from No. 1 Courtney Morton, 6-1, 6-1, No. 2 Kara Pendley, 6-0, 6-1 and No. 3 Anna Grace Wilson, 6-0, 6-0.  Ridgeland forfeited both doubles matches.

Coahulla Creek boys 3, Adairsville 2: The Colts (5-0, 5-0 Region 5-3A) got singles wins from No. 2 Jake Mathis 6-0, 6-4 and No. 3 Alex Jarjoura won 4-6, 6-6 (7-4), 6-3, plus a doubles win from No. 1 Austin Turner and Donovan Newby won 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (10-4).

Adairsville girls 4, Coahulla Creek 1: No. 1 singles Erin Orem won 6-2, 6-0 for the Lady Colts (2-3, 2-3).

• Dalton’s junior varsity tennis teams went 8-0 in matches at the Cass Invitational, with split squads winning twice each in boys and girls competition.

For the boys: Dalton beat Cass 3-0 with wins from 1 Robert Enck, 8-3 in pro-set play, No. 2 Werner Braun, 8-5, and No. 1 Jake Myers and Riley Gunn, 8-4. Dalton beat Woodland-Bartow 3-0 with wins from No. 1 Patrick Hayes, 8-2, No. 2 Peter Sigmon, 8-1 and No. 1 Evan Pope and Nolan Gazaway, 8-1. Dalton beat Woodland 3-0 with wins from No. 1 Enck, 8-1, No. 2 Braun, 8-2 and No. 3 Myers and Gunn, 8-0. Dalton beat Cass 2-1 with wins from No. 2 Sigmon, 8-2, No. 1 Pope and Gazaway, 8-5.

For the girls: Dalton beat Cass 2-1 with wins from No. 1 Sydney Tankersley 8-6 and No. 1 Morgan Coker and Katherine Clifford, 8-4. Dalton beat River Ridge 3-0 with wins from No. 1 Mackenzie Creswell, 8-3, No. 2 Shelby Fromm, 8-0 and No. 1 Macy Burgess and Bianca Salaises, 8-6. Dalton beat River Ridge 3-0 with wins from No. 1 Tankersley, 8-4, No. 2 Clifford, 8-0 and No. 1 Dana Crane and Coker, 8-1. Dalton beat Cass 2-1 with wins from No. 1 Creswell, 8-3 and No. 2 Fromm, 8-6. The Lady Cats were forced to injury default during the doubles match.
