Elderly woman’s incontinence pads mistaken for bomb in Pacific Fair bin, sparking evacuation

Staff at a Pacific Fair shopping center in Australia were forced to evacuate their workplace for up to two hours after reports of an elderly woman putting “suspicious packages” in a nearby rubbish bin. Police were called to the center at about 3 p.m. and after speaking with the elderly woman found the packages were actually incontinence pads. — Gold Coast Bulletin

American drones were scouring a region the size of West Virginia in northern Nigeria for nearly 300 Christian schoolgirls kidnapped a month ago by a maniacal Islamic warlord, but the effort faced a potential roadblock in a rarely-invoked U.S. law that bars the military from helping certain governments. — Fox News

A report finds that the U.S. has overtaken France as the world’s top wine consumer. France consumed 742.3 million gallons of wine in 2013, a 7 percent decline over 2012; the U.S., by comparison, consumed 768.7 million gallons, a 0.5 percent increase. — NPR

Boy may have been bitten by shark off Tybee Island

A 12-year-old boy may have been bitten by a shark Sunday while surfing on the south end of Tybee Island, according to a news report. Ayden Meadows ended up at a hospital where he needed 11 stitches. — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
