Firefighters appreciated

To the editor:

We would like to extend our thanks to the Whitfield County Fire Department, in particular to stations 4, 5 and 8.

On April 19 at 1 p.m. we had a fire at our home. The firemen were at our house within five minutes after receiving the call. They got the fire out in about one hour. We have extensive damage, but if it were not for the fast response of the firemen our home would have been a total loss.

The fire chief helped us get in touch with our insurance agent that same afternoon. Before leaving, he asked if we needed anything and if we had a place to stay.

Several different firemen and volunteers have been by our home this week to see how we are doing. The volunteer firemen work right alongside the regular firemen.

We think the Whitfield County Fire Department went above and beyond their duties. We are very fortunate indeed to have the fire department that we have. I think this is a service we take for granted until we need them. My family and I are very grateful to these brave men.
