Now is a good time to plant grass.
Claire Pendley, a sales representative with Whitesburg-based North Georgia Turf, said spring is the ideal time to plant sod, but caretakers should be sure the greenery has plenty of water during the first two weeks while it is taking root.
The company has been in business since the mid-1980s; employs more than 100; sells 10 varieties of sod; and has farms in Calhoun, Clarksville, Perry, Fort Valley and Whitesburg.
“Laying sod is very beneficial because it’s like instant lawn,” Pendley said. “You don’t have to wait for the seed to sprout. You don’t have to pray that it doesn’t rain and wash away the seed.”
The Daily Citizen recently planted 2,400 square feet of Bermuda grass from the company.
