Three now in jail following home invasion

Mark Millican

A man wanted for an armed home invasion on March 27 was arrested on Tuesday after being chased on foot by Dalton Police officers who pulled him over for a seat belt violation.

Edmund David Ridley Jr., 27, of 120 Ola Drive in Cohutta, “began to run on foot (but) was arrested after a short chase,” said police spokesman Bruce Frazier of the 7 p.m. stop on the North Bypass near Reed Road. Ridley is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstruction of an officer and the seat belt violation. The charges in the arrest warrant from the home invasion are armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

According to a police report, Ridley and Keith Alan Gibson, 37, of 99 Lee Court in Ringgold knocked on the door at 1408 Belton Ave. No. 1 and forced their way inside. After demanding money from the resident at gunpoint they left with $2,000 in cash and two cell phones, the report said.

Deborah Ann Canales, 30, of 1408 Belton Ave. No 1, was arrested on April 15 and charged with making false statements, being party to a crime (armed robbery), making a false report of a crime, possession of meth and possession of cocaine. She remains in the Whitfield County Jail and will face arraignment in Superior Court on Friday.

“Evidently she was friends with the victim and also friends with the attackers,” Frazier said.

Gibson was arrested on April 17 and charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of meth and possession of cocaine. He also remains in jail and faces arraignment on Friday.

Ridley had a first appearance in Magistrate Court on Wednesday. He was bound over to a bond hearing in Superior Court but a date has not been set, a jail spokesman said.
