Area briefs for June 10

The Civic Arts League of Chattanooga, in conjunction with the Tunnel Hill Historical Foundation, is presenting its second “A Brush with History” art show through July 6 at the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center.

Raising awareness of the importance of the arts and helping preserve the rich history of the area are the goals of the event. These organizations are nonprofit and all artists participating have offered a percentage of any sales to the Historical Foundation.

The exhibit will present original artwork featuring historical themes, Civil War scenes and well-known landmarks in the Tunnel Hill and surrounding area. A number of Civic Arts League members are from Tunnel Hill, Dalton and Ringgold.

The Highland Rivers Community Service Board will meet on June 17 at 10 a.m. in the Harris Arts Center at 212 S. Wall St. in Calhoun. The meeting is open to the public. The Executive, Finance and Corporate Compliance Committees will meet at 9 a.m.

Highland Rivers Center offers treatment and support services for adults and children affected by mental health disorders, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases. The agency serves Bartow, Cherokee, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk and Whitfield counties, and provides addictive disease services to citizens of Haralson County.

The Friends of Red Clay State Historic Park will meet tonight at 6:30. People attending are encouraged to bring a covered dish. Everyone is welcome.

The group is developing plans for the annual Cherokee Days of Recognition and other programs to enhance the park and Cherokee cultural preservation.
