ELECTION: Varnell referendums appear to pass

— A measure to allow the sale of distilled spirits by the drink was ahead 111 (58.11 percent) to 80 (41.88 percent) with eight provisional ballots yet to be counted, according to the Whitfield County Board of Elections and Registrars.
The city has allowed the sale of beer and wine by the drink since January.
A measure to allow the sale of alcohol by the drink on Sunday was ahead 100 (52.08 percent) to 92 (47.92 percent) with those eight ballots yet to be counted. Those numbers are unofficial.
