• A surprise Pastor Appreciation Day for Junior and Sheila Clayton will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. at Valley Brook Church of God in Dalton in honor of their four years of service.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Jimmy Talley with special music by His Grace.
The church is at 722 Mineral Springs Road. All friends and relatives are invited.

• Jim Suddath was recently named senior pastor of Fellowship Bible Church.
Suddath was born in Atlanta and obtained a master’s of divinity from Columbia Biblical Seminary. He previously served at First Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga and the Evangelical Community Church of Jackson. He and his wife, Jenny, have three children, Josh, Joanna and Julia.
The church is at 2044 Dug Gap Road.


• Allen Bryant has been appointed youth director of the Dalton Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Bryant is also a theology student at Southern Adventist University. He formerly served as youth pastor at a Church of God in Dalton.
“My goal is to see God work through the youth at our church,” said Bryant.
“We are pleased that Allen has accepted this position,” said Pastor Rex Frost. “We feel that work with the young people is very important.”

• The Rev. Burman Cape will be the guest speaker Sunday at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church.
The church is at 1205 Antioch Drive in Dalton.

• Faith Christian Academy will host “An Evening in Mayberry with Barney” featuring impersonator, humorist and Christian speaker Sammy Sawyer as Barney Fife of “The Andy Griffith Show” Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at Faith Worship Center.
Tickets are $25 for couples, $15 for singles, $5 for children and free for children 5 and under. Tickets include a blue plate dinner of either meatloaf or fried chicken with a variety of side dishes. There will also be a drawing for an Aunt Bea’s basket filled with homemade items.

• A “Youth Explosion” revival will be held Aug. 23 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Cartersville Civic Center in Cartersville. Lunch will be served following the morning service.
The Civic Center is at 435 W. Main St.

• The Rev. Bobby Brindle will be the guest speaker Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Dalton. He will also be present at the 6:30 p.m. service during which the video “Burning Hell” will be shown.
The film was produced in 1974 by the late Estus Pirkle. A nursery will be provided.

• The First Church of the Nazarene will have its annual “Pack a Pew Sunday” on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Lunch will be served after the service.

• Mountain View Baptist Church will begin offering “Ground Zero: Meeting Jesus at the Point of Impact” each Wednesday at 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 3. Classes are available for ages 1 year to young adults.

• Cedar Valley Church of God will celebrate homecoming Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Duke as guest speaker.

• Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church will have its annual Women’s Day celebration Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The morning speaker will be Lillian Miller, with Sherrell Jones bringing the afternoon message. The theme is “A Christian Woman of Strength: The Identifying Marks of a Godly Woman.”
The church is at 2014 M.L. King Jr. Blvd. in Dalton. All area women are welcome.

• One Purpose of Cartersville will be in concert Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship in Dalton.

• Lookout Baptist Church will have a churchwide yard sale Aug. 30 at 8 a.m. featuring a variety of items. Proceeds benefit Operation Christmas Child.

• The quarterly Murray County/North Georgia Singing Convention will be held at Smyrna Baptist Church Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
There will be group singing out of the newest books released by various Southern gospel publishers as well as some specials. Refreshments will follow.

• “The Jesus Painter” Mike Lewis will bring the message Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church in Dalton.

• First Evangelistic Church will celebrate homecoming Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. with Bill Elsberry as guest speaker.
There will be special singing before the service. Lunch will follow.

• South Cohutta Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Tommy Brown as guest speaker. Special music will be presented by 5 Alive in Christ.
The church is located on Cohutta-Varnell Road in Cohutta. Pastor Alan Ledford welcomes everyone.

• Calvary Chapel Church will be in revival Aug. 20-24 with Dennis Childers as guest speaker. Sunday services begin at 6 p.m., with remaining services beginning at 7 p.m.
The church is located off Tibbs Bridge Road in Dalton. Pastor John Manley invites the public.

• True Gospel Pentecostal Church will celebrate its annual Choir Day Sunday at 4 p.m. featuring Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson, Sons of Harmony and guest choir Olivet Baptist Church of Chattanooga.
Participating churches include Hopewell Baptist, Community Fellowship Ministries, Shiloh Baptist, Liberty Baptist, New Hope Baptist and Holy Gospel Temple.

• The Fifth Sunday Union Sunday school and morning worship will be held Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. at New Beginning Pure Holiness Church on Fourth Avenue.
The speaker will be Elder Windell Smith, pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church. Special music will be presented by the Hopewell Choir.
Deacon Jerry Watters, president of the Union, and Elder Claud Jones, pastor, invite everyone.

Two-time Parents Choice Award-winner Roger Day will be in concert Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton.
Day creates an imaginary world populated by pachyderms, sherpas, isopods and mosquito burritos — urging kids to reach their potential by using body and brain, mind and muscle. His intent is to empower children to follow their dreams and make a positive impact on the world.
Admission is free.

Dr. Bailey Smith will be the guest speaker Sunday at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun.
Smith, former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, currently serves as president of Bailey Smith Ministries. The ministry is an evangelistic organization committed to the proclamation of the Gospel through area-wide crusades, church revivals, Bible conferences, ladies’ retreats and overseas ministries.
The church is located on Highway 53.

A gospel singing will be held Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. at Eternal Light House in Dalton. Featured groups include New Creations, Servants of the Lord, Harvest Labours, The Randolph Family and Heading Home.
