Bomb threat causes lockdown at Murray County High School; nothing found

From Staff Reports

A phone call with a bomb threat to Murray County High School Wednesday afternoon resulted in the school being locked down while sheriff's office deputies and Chatsworth Police Department officers searched the school and nearby properties, including the recreation department across the street and the Ninth Grade Academy, officials said.

The call came in at about 1:25 p.m. Nothing was found, law enforcement officials said.

Classes resumed, and the law enforcement officers left the school at about 3 p.m. They were trying to locate the source of the call and the investigation continued.

Dean Donehoo, director of administrative services for the school system, said each student took home a letter from principal Gina Linder explaining the protocol used for the lockdown and an assessment of the situation by school and law enforcement authorities.

A person responsible for a bomb threat can be charged with terroristic threats and acts, a felony. If convicted, the person could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and ordered to pay up to a $1,000 fine.
