The Georgia Department of Transportation says the 6-mile resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction project of State Route (SR) 3 and the paving project on SR 71 between SR 3 and Roland Hill Drive in Whitfield County have been completed ahead of schedule.
The SR 3 reconstruction project was scheduled for completion by December. The SR 71 paving project was slated for completion by the end of October.
“The completion of these two projects will positively influence the lives of Whitfield County residents by improving the flow of traffic on SR 3 and Highway 71, making it safer, and helping the traveling public get where they need to go in Whitfield County,” said Kent Sager, district engineer at the GDOT office in Cartersville.
“Although some minor work remains to be done, these two construction projects are completed for all practical purposes, as far as the traveling public is concerned,” explained Sager. “We are glad to finish the work and give the roads back to the traveling public.”
GDOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about these or any other construction projects on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures and delays due to inclement weather. Callers also can transfer to operators to request assistance or report incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. More information is available at www.511ga.org.
