The 13th Annual Conasauga Watershed Clean-Up will be Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The first 150 volunteers will receive a free hat or T-shirt. There will be a special patch for Scouts.
A Make a Difference Day celebration with a free lunch and live band will be at the Dalton State Student Center that day beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the free lunch will be given out at the Make a Difference Day project sites.
Joining forces for the event are the Conasauga River Alliance, Keep Dalton/Whitfield Beautiful, The Nature Conservancy, the Northwest Georgia United Way’s Make A Difference Day and Rivers Alive, Georgia’s annual waterway clean-up.
This year’s clean-up will take place at five locations (directions below):
• Lower King’s Bridge/Norton Bridge on the Conasauga River
• Highway 2 Bridge on the Conasauga River
• Holly Creek in Murray County on the Chattahoochee National Forest
• Mill Creek and tributary in the city of Dalton
• Chickamauga Creek in the city of Ringgold
Sturdy shoes or boots, gloves, long pants and long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Hip or chest waders are useful, but are not required. Trash bags and plenty of drinks and snacks will be provided.
Local sponsors include the Carpet City Rotary Club, Dalton Utilities, the Dalton-Whitfield Regional Solid Waste Management Authority and Shaw Industries.

Directions
• Lower King’s Bridge/Norton Bridge on the Conasauga River. From Dalton: Take Highway 52/76 toward Chatsworth. Turn left onto Highway 286. After passing through Dawnville, go another half mile on Highway 286 and turn left onto Lower King’s Bridge Road. Go two miles, turn right at the stop sign and park when you get near the bridge. From Chatsworth: Go north on Highway 411. Go through Eton and continue another 1.7 miles on Highway 411 and turn left onto Red Cut Road. Continue straight on this road for four or five miles until you reach the river. (Red Cut Road will change names to Norton Bridge Road when you cross Highway 225.) Cross the bridge over the river and park.
• Highway 2 Bridge on the Conasauga River. From Dalton: Take the Cleveland Highway (Route 71) north from Dalton to Highway 2. Turn right on Highway 2 and go about 6.5 miles until you reach the bridge over Conasauga River at Beaverdale Superette — park at the store. From Chatsworth: Go north on U.S. Route 411. At Cisco, turn left onto Highway 2 and go about seven miles until you reach the bridge over the Conasauga River at Beaverdale Superette — park at the store.
• Holly Creek. From U.S. Route 411 Northbound: At Eton, turn right (east) on CCC Camp Road. Continue on this road even after the pavement ends. One mile after the pavement ends look for the parking area on the left at the swimming hole area with registration table.
• Mill Creek and tributary at Underwood Apartments in Dalton. From Dalton or Chatsworth: Take the North Bypass to Underwood Street. Turn south onto Underwood Street at traffic light. Continue on Underwood. Turn left onto Phoenix Place at Underwood Apartments. From Walnut Avenue: From the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Walnut Avenue, go north on Glenwood. Turn right onto Martin Luther King Boulevard. Proceed for 10 blocks and turn left onto Fields Avenue. Continue on Fields Avenue until the intersection with Underwood Street. Turn right onto Underwood. Proceed on Underwood for about seven blocks. Turn right onto Phoenix Place at Underwood Apartments.
• Chickamauga Creek at Ringgold Recreation Fields. From I-75: At Exit 348, go east toward Ringgold on Highway 151 (Alabama Highway). Turn right onto Lafayette Road and then make a right turn beside the creek, going toward the Shaw plant. The recreation fields are on the right. Go to the back, by the creek (look for clean-up signs).
