St. Mark’s Episcopal Church hosts Heifer Fest ’09

The public is invited to join St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in celebrating Heifer Fest ‘09 this Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

As the name implies, Heifer Fest is a celebration of livestock, or, more specifically, what that livestock can do to reduce world hunger and improve nutrition through sustainable agriculture.

The festival will feature a live animal display, music and fun activities for all ages, along with the opportunity to learn about Heifer International, an organization that works in the areas of livestock and agriculture to develop programs that alleviate poverty and hunger.

“Heifer International allows us to give the gift of hope to people all over the world and to become a part of something bigger than ourselves,” said Nicholas Hull, St. Mark’s Youth Group coordinator. “When someone donates an animal through Heifer International, that donation becomes hope for the future. This project is about giving people the tools and training they need to create better lives for themselves and their families. Entire communities are changed, and, in the process, the world becomes a better place.”

Since 1944, Heifer International has worked to bring help, healing and hope to more than 10.5 million impoverished families in more than 125 countries, including the United States. By providing animals and the training to manage them, Heifer International reinvigorates communities and makes it possible for individuals and families to become self-reliant.
