Program to help with heating bills

Dalton Daily Citizen

A program to help some households pay heating bills gets under way Tuesday, Dec. 1.

North Georgia Community Action in Dalton contracts with the state Department of Human Resources for the Energy Assistance Program.

To apply, applicants must bring the most recent heating bill, proof of household income, proof of valid Social Security number and proof of citizenship or alien status.

Assistance will be a one-time payment on behalf of eligible households to help offset the cost of heating a home. Checks are issued directly to the home energy supplier. No checks can be issued until North Georgia Community Action receives the funds from the state.

Assistance is ona first-come, first-serve basis while the funds last.

All households must meet the income criteria and be responsible for paying the heating supplier directly.

Any low-income resident of the area who would like to apply should contact NGCA’s Community Service Center for their county beginning Dec. 1 at 8:30 a.m.

In Whitfield County, call 706-226-7241; in Murray County, call 706-695-5913.
