Man charged with shotgun threats

A Resaca man remains in the Whitfield County jail without bond on charges related to threatening a woman and her children with a shotgun as they were trying to drive away from him on Sunday.

Michael Curtis Lowery, 30, of 183 Hardee Road, was charged by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with aggravated assault with a gun, cruelty to a child, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony and false imprisonment.

According to an incident report, Lowery and the woman were arguing at a residence on Shelton Road when she tried to leave with her two children. The woman told an officer that Lowery had a shotgun and was pointing it at her and her children while they were in a vehicle.

As she tried to leave, Lowery threw the shotgun down, opened the driver’s door and grabbed the steering wheel and put on the emergency brake, she told police. She was eventually able to take the emergency brake off and get away. The children corroborated her story, the report shows.

According to the report, Lowery told the officer that the woman and the children were trying to leave, “and he did not want them to leave.”
