Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit.

The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Antonio’s Mexican Restaurant, 3590 S. Dixie Highway

Comments: The inside of the ice machine needs to be cleaned. The back corner shows leak stains that look light brown. Clean inside of microwave and gaskets on reach-in cooler in dry storage room.

Comments: Cloth bucket was found sitting among single-service items. All items were still wrapped so no contamination is suspected. Do not store chemicals/sanitizer water next to any food or utensils to avoid contamination by splash or drip. Corrected on site. Remove buildup from drying rack. Close doors on dumpster and replace plug. Also, keep area clean. Keep area clean.

Comments: Two dishes were observed in handwashing sink. Nothing must go in the hand sink. It is for hand washing only. Rice in walk-in was covered with a cloth napkin. Do not cover food with cloth material. Only use plastic wrap or lids or metal lids. Owner not wearing hair restraint while prepping food and orders. Hair restraint (hat or hair net) must be worn while in kitchen or food prep area. Remove buildup from handles, doors and gaskets on prep cooler. Clean thoroughly with sanitized wiping cloth.



Luigi’s Pizza Italian Restaurant, 3957 Cleveland Highway, Suite C

Comments: Date markings are missing on containers of steak, beef and other meats. One container was past the discard date. All potentially hazardous food must be date marked. Day one is the prep or open date and it may be used a maximum of seven days. Corrected on site. Wet stacking of buckets used for food storage. Allow all utensils to air dry before stacking. Microwave, prep coolers, gaskets and fryers must be cleaned to remove all the food and grease buildup. Also, remove dust from ceiling vents. Vent hood needs cleaning to remove buildup.



Burger Den, 160 Highway 2

Comments: A plastic container of chicken was observed sitting on top shelf of refrigerator. Chicken was raw. Other raw meats were underneath. Raw chicken was moved, but other meats underneath were covered and there were no signs of contamination and, therefore, they were not discarded. Never store raw chicken above any other food. Always store it on the bottom. Corrected on site.



Sonic, 2702 Airport Road

Comments: An energy drink (can, open) was found stored in the bottom prep cooler. Personal drinks must be served in a single-service container with lid and straw and stored away from food and other clean utensils. Corrected on site. Stored food in reach-in freezer and cooler must be covered to avoid contamination from dripping water or dusty fans. Cloth bucket sanitizing solution was non-existent. The tubing that pumps sanitizer from container into the hose is not working; no sanitizer gets through. Sanitizer from packs will be used. Sanitizer must be checked after mixing it with water to ensure proper levels. Maintain at 200 ppm and re-clean food. Also, properly clean dicer and slicer parts to remove buildup and grease/oil. Replace the broken piece on dicer. 100 ppm for dishes. Corrected on site. Dumpster and grease trap doors and lids must remain closed. Walls and ceilings need to be cleaned thoroughly to remove all buildup. Maintain cooler and freezer doors and bottoms clean and free of food debris.



Micion Es Tu Salud, 901 N. Glenwood Ave.

Comments: Soap (hand) and paper towels and hand soap were not provided at hand sink in kitchen. Paper towels were provided later, but the only hand soap on site is in the bathroom. Hand soap must be provided at all times, as well as paper towels, in all hand sinks. No hand towels in bathroom. Corrected on site. Blenders were observed just being rinsed and scrubbed without soap. None were sanitized. Blenders were re-washed with soap. No test strips are available. Garbage can is sitting on grassy patch. Must sit on concrete pad approved during final inspection. Ceiling tiles were changed to some that are porous. Replace with smooth, non-absorbent and easy to clean tiles in the kitchen area. Light shield missing in bathroom. Establishment is closed until hand soap, paper towels and test strips are provided (inspection performed on Dec. 20, 2013).



McDonald’s, 142 Carbondale Road

Comments: Access to handwashing sink was blocked by carts. Access must never be blocked. Ham and cheese in walk-in were found out of temperature in the walk-in. Tomatoes and cheese at prep line were also out of temperature. Time is not being recorded for potentially hazardous items at prep line and temperature is not maintained either. Sanitizer concentration in third compartment of sink was greater than 400 ppm when the appropriate level is only 100 ppm. Levels this high are considered toxic. Sink was drained and level dropped. Corrected on site. Get walk-in serviced. Make sure all potentially hazardous food can reach below 41 degrees. Re-check required. Will owe $50 re-inspection fee at time of inspection.
