Wreck cause still undetermined

Rachel Brown

— Investigators are still working to learn why a driver veered off the pavement on Brown’s Bridge Road Wednesday afternoon in a wreck that killed one person and badly injured the driver.

Murray County Deputy Coroner Zach Huggins said JoAnn Bowers, 70, of Chatsworth, died from wounds she sustained in the wreck after the vehicle veered off the road on the right side and struck a culvert.

Bowers’ husband, Robert, 74, was driving and had to be taken by Life Force helicopter to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. A spokeswoman there said he remained in critical condition Thursday evening.

A Georgia State Patrol spokesman said the wreck remains under investigation. Trooper Nathan Roberts said speed was not a factor, and investigators do not suspect Robert Bowers was using alcohol or drugs.
