From Staff Reports
No one was injured in an early morning house fire Thursday, but the entire structure was a loss, and investigators still don’t know what caused the blaze.
Dalton Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Cantrell said responders got the call shortly before 6 a.m. that the house at 803 Morton Drive, which is in a neighborhood off of West Walnut Avenue, was on fire. They arrived to find it engulfed in flames.
Cantrell said firefighters stayed on the scene much of the day and planned to resume the investigation today. Homeowner Barbara Hennon was not home at the time of the fire. She declined on Thursday to talk to a reporter.
Several individuals, including a Daily Citizen newspaper carrier, called 911 to report the blaze. Neighbor Kay-Lynne Davies said she also reported the fire after awaking to the smell of smoke. Davies said she was relieved her neighbor wasn’t at home.
