Guard’s 108th to host open house at Calhoun Armory

The Clay National Guard Center in Calhoun, home of Headquarters Troop of the 1st Squadron of the 108th Calvary of the Georgia Army National Guard, will host an open house on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the first open house since the 108th returned in March from a year’s deployment in Afghanistan. Dalton’s Charlie Troop is part of the 108th.

The public is invited to tour the armory at 300 N. River St. and to view military vehicles used in Afghanistan. Attendees can also “fire” the computerized video small arms trainer, and view a historical display of Calhoun’s 108th Cavalry. A special commemoration for Georgia’s fallen heroes will be on display. Commemorative T-shirts of the unit’s Afghanistan deployment will be available.

For more information call Capt. Christopher Powell at (706) 879-2906.
