Restaurant report card — Whitfield County


— Whitfield County Environmental Health conducts inspections of restaurants. The inspectors may require a re-inspection. Restaurants are required by law to post their most recent inspection permit. The Daily Citizen lists areas where the establishments are out of compliance with the regulations. Recent restaurant scores for all six counties within the North Georgia Health District are available at www.nghd.org.



Marco’s Pizza, 785 Shugart Road, Suite 8

Comments: Cups were observed in containers for use as scoops. Scoops must have handles and be kept out of food. Bathrooms must have paper towels due to handles on doors.



Miller Brothers Rib Shack South, 4109 S. Dixie Highway

Comments: Cheese in reach-in with no date and chicken past the use-by date. Meat thawing in sink filled with water. Thaw under a constant stream of water or by placing in cooler.



Waffle House, 246 Connector 3

Comments: Cook was observed reaching into prep cooler and taking tomatoes with bare hands. Ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods may not be touched with bare hands. Clean gloves must be worn on utensils used with ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods. Wiping cloths were observed sitting on countertop out of the sanitizer solution. Wet wiping cloths must be in sanitizer buckets when not in use. Knives were observed in drawer in contact with blood from raw steak. Another knife was stored between lid of prep cooler. Utensils must be stored on a clean surface to avoid contamination.



El Pollo Alegre, 323 S. Grimes St.

Comments: Beans in walk-in were put to cool yesterday but they were covered. Two out of the four containers that did not properly cool were discarded. To-go boxes containing chicken (cooked) were not marked by time. When asked on the time the chicken was removed from the grill and into the boxes, the grill and the kitchen employee gave two different times (though box times were no more than 30 minutes apart). Boxes of raw chicken were found on kitchen floor. Food must be stored at least six inches above the floor. A wet wiping cloth was found in the vegetable prep sink. Multiple cloths were found on the prep table in kitchen. Inspection sheet was posted behind the branches of a plant. Inspection sheet must out for public display in plain sight.



McDonald’s, 142 Carbondale Road

Comments: Various items on prep table were out of temperature. Cheese was discarded. Maintain ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods at 41 degrees or lower. Time is used for prep table items but had not been updated for the tomato and cheese were out of temperature. Two items were found past their use-by date in prep cooler. Utensils are not being air dried and placed in container while wet. Handles should also be facing the same direction to avoid contamination, the part that comes in contact with food. Tiles by drink station need to be repaired; they are holding water and debris. Also, seal gap between wall and three-compartment sink. Lights in back storage area are lacking light shields.



El Sombrero, 234 N. Hamilton St.

Comments: Sour cream was observed sitting on tomato container, but not in the unit to maintain cold temperature. The sour cream was out of temperature. Cheese in the reach-in cooler was also out of temperature. Maintain ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods at 41 degrees or lower. Nacho cheese in pot was out of temperature. Maintain ready to eat, potentially hazardous foods at 135 degrees or higher. Dates were not marked on an original cheese package or on cooked chicken in reach-in. Raid bug killer was observed, again, in front area of restaurant. Remove unapproved chemical from establishment.



Dalton Depot, 110 Depot St.

Comments: Boiled eggs made yesterday were not 45 degrees; not properly cooling. Place food in ice baths, use ice wands or place them in walk-in cooler freezer to cool correctly. Multiple food was found past its use-by date. Discarded. Sanitizer levels were too high; toxic. Wiping cloths were observed on countertops and tables throughout the kitchen.
