Man arrested for allegedly groping cheerleader

— A 40-year-old man is out of jail on bond after he allegedly groped a cheerleader at the Dalton-Northwest high school football game Friday night.

Jason Patrick Alford, of 906 Sierra Place-27, Dalton, was charged Friday by the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office with sexual battery against a child under 16 and possession of alcohol on public school grounds.

Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Rick Swiney said that according to witness accounts, during halftime, Alford came up behind a 15-year-old Dalton cheerleader and grabbed her buttocks.

“When she turned around, he immediately apologized,” Swiney said.

Swiney said school administrators told officials Alford had to be escorted out of a game once before for allegedly taking pictures of the cheerleaders. When the cheerleader who Alford allegedly grabbed saw him, she remembered him from that incident, Swiney said.

“We took him into custody and found where he had brought his own chair to the game to sit in and had a small backpack with him, and he had some alcohol in his backpack,” Swiney said. “You could tell he was a little intoxicated. There’s no doubt that he had been consuming alcohol.”

Swiney said Alford had vodka mixed with another kind of liquid.

Alford got out of jail on an $8,500 bond on Sunday. A phone number for him was not listed.
