Members of the North Georgia Veterans Day Parade Committee are in the process of preparing for the annual Veterans Day parade that will take place in Dalton on Saturday, Nov. 9. The event is open to all veterans and anyone in the community who wishes to honor veterans, including those currently serving in the military throughout the world.
The Parade Committee reports that excellent participation has been received from many individuals, civic clubs, motorcycle clubs, car clubs, military units, Scout troops, Civil War re-enactors, ROTC units and school bands.
“It is with real pride that all have committed to take part in this event, and some units have a sizable number of participants,” said John Wilson, Parade Committee co-chairman. “Anyone not participating in the parade can honor our veterans by being on the parade route waving and showing support for all they have done and are doing for our country.” The parade route will be announced soon.
Sponsors include American Legion Post 112, Dalton VFW Post 4985, Dalton Elks Lodge 1267, The Daily Citizen, Hamilton Medical Center, Downtown Dalton Development Authority, Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful, Norma and Vernon Gordon, the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia, city of Dalton and Whitfield County.
“Everyone is invited, and it is our hope that the general public will come out in mass to honor our veterans,” said Wilson. “All veterans who wish to ride in the parade should report to the parade marshals at the assembly point at 501 W. Waugh St. (old city jail building) between 9 and 9:45 a.m. The parade will start promptly at 10 a.m.
Anyone wishing to participate in the parade can still do so by submitting an application to the Parade Committee. Applications are available by contacting one of the two co-chairmen: John Wilson, (706) 971-4139 or (706) 428-1730, or Larry Stewart, (706) 313-3272.
