— Debbie’s Day Care in Dalton recently received a three-star rating, the highest possible, from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.

“I’m really excited about this,” said owner Deborah Sosebee. “I really love what I do. I really love kids, and I try to give them something more than the basic day care. I want to prepare them for school. I’m the first family day care in Dalton and Whitfield County to receive it.”

Sosebee is licensed to care for up to six children and currently has a waiting list for admission. She is certified by the National Association for Family Child Care.

She said the review process for the state rating took about eight months.

“You have to put together a portfolio. You have to show all your education and training and professional development. You have to describe all your activities, your nutrition, your safety plans,” she said. “You submit that. Then they do a visit and spend several hours observing you.”

The rating process is voluntary.
